Last week I told you to mark your calendar. Look at us, following through. Bok Tower opens its gates for free on Thursday and Friday, and a 205-foot singing tower an hour south is the kind of deliberate trip that separates the people who live here from the people who are just letting their lease run out. The rest of the week belongs to the circuit, which has made its peace with being the supporting act. It has outlasted flashier things. It will outlast whatever you are worried about too. Here is how to run it.

🗼 BOK TOWER GARDENS, THE FREE DAYS
When: Thursday July 30 + Friday July 31, 8 AM to 5 PM
Where: Bok Tower Gardens, 1151 Tower Blvd, Lake Wales
Cost: FREE with pre-registration (normally $17)
Fifty acres of Olmsted-designed gardens, two hiking trails, a 20-room Mediterranean estate, and a 205-foot art deco tower holding a 60-bell carillon. The carillon has been ringing since 1929, and it has aged better than nearly everything built since.
Here is the catch, because there is always a catch. This is not walk-up free. Wawa sponsors these last-Thursday-and-Friday dates each summer month, registration is required, capacity is capped, and the tickets live on the website. Four visitors per registration. If the slots are gone when you look, that is your answer, and August 27 and 28 are your last chances of the season. Do not say I did not warn you. I am always warning you.
It is about an hour south in Lake Wales. A deliberate trip, not a detour. Pack water, wear the real shoes, and go early before the heat takes the whole place hostage.
Leave me and the pup patrol at home for this one. Believe me, I would LOVE to go. But I do tend to get a little too excited and bark my joy at full volume, and these gardens were built for quiet. Quiet and I have an understanding, and I would hate to break it in front of a national landmark. So I will see you back home. Bring me a treat, though. It is the least the day owes both of us.

If you are making the Bok trip: Thu Jul 30 or Fri Jul 31, register online FIRST, then leave Orlando by 8:30 AM. Gardens by 9:30, tower and trails before the worst heat, carillon concert if you time it, lunch in Lake Wales or back on the road by 1 PM. (no dog, and I have made my peace with it)
If you are staying close: Thu Jul 30, TPD Night Market, Thornton Park, 6 to 10 PM (Dog ✅). Fri Jul 31, Art After Dark Lake Nona, 6 to 10 PM (Dog ✅), or the DeLand Farmers & Makers Market, 6 to 9 PM at Artisan Alley (Dog ✅). Sat Aug 1, Winter Park Farmers’ Market, 8 AM to 1 PM (Dog ✅). Sun Aug 2, Lake Eola 10 AM to 3 PM for the chaos or Maitland 9 AM to 1 PM for the sanity (Dog ✅ either way).

Where: TPD Circle, Thornton Park, Downtown Orlando
Cost: FREE
The circuit’s reliable opener. Local makers, vintage vendors, food trucks, and a crowd that skews neighborly instead of performing neighborly for the algorithm.
If you spent your daylight at Bok Tower, this is the low-effort landing. No registration, no drive, no agenda, nobody taking attendance. Wander in at 7, out by 9.
Dogs welcome and actually provided for. Bring cash. Half these tables still treat a card reader like a rumor.

🎪 DELAND FRIDAY NIGHT, THE NORTHERN ESCAPE
When: Fri Jul 31, 6 to 9 PM
Where: Artisan Alley, 109 W Indiana Ave, DeLand
Cost: FREE
Thirty-five minutes north and a completely different frequency than the metro markets. Artisan Alley runs through the brick alleys of a downtown that somehow kept its bones instead of selling them to a developer, and the Friday market fills them with makers, produce, and music that never once tries to be a headliner.
DeLand’s main street keeps winning awards for the radical act of staying itself. Harder than it sounds. I have watched plenty of main streets take the buyout and lose that fight for good.
Bring me along, this one is very much my scene. Extremely dog friendly, and I have vendors to visit. There are specific tables here that know me and keep the good snacks in reserve, and it would be rude to make them wait. Easy street parking after 6, and the drive home is the quiet kind. Call it the introvert’s Friday with a passport stamp.

🎨 ART AFTER DARK, LAKE NONA FRIDAY
When: Fri Jul 31, 6 to 10 PM
Where: Lake Nona Town Center, under The Beacon
Cost: Free
Forty-plus local makers set up under The Beacon: paintings, jewelry, photography, and the kind of browsing that rewards a slow lap before you commit to anything. Free garage parking, which is a phrase I do not get to write often enough to waste.
This is the introvert’s opener. You can see all of it, buy one thing, and be home by nine without apologizing to anyone. Dogs on leash welcome, and the wide walkways mean nobody is stepping on anybody’s tail.
If Thursday at Thornton Park takes your whole battery, this is the gentler reset. Same weekend, opposite frequency.
Set your own pace out there. That is the entire point of a Friday.

🐕 MARKETS + YOUR MONDAY ANCHOR
The circuit holds its shape in late July. Winter Park Farmers’ Market every Saturday, 8 AM to 1 PM. The vendors have been at this longer than most restaurants survive, and it shows.
The Sunday split: Lake Eola from 10 AM to 3 PM for the chaos, or the Maitland Farmers’ Market at 1776 Independence Lane, 9 AM to 1 PM, for your sanity. Both dog friendly, both worth knowing, and only one of them will make you fight for parking.
Your Monday anchor: Audubon Park Community Market every single Monday from 5 to 8 PM in the Stardust Video & Coffee parking lot on E. Winter Park Rd. Dog friendly, immaculate vibes, and the pet vendors carry the absolute good stuff, meaning treats worth sitting, staying, and selling my soul for.
Nineteen issues in and this one still has not been ruined by the vacation shirt crowd. Let us keep it between us.
The Friday option: DeLand Farmers & Makers Market every Friday 6 to 9 PM at Artisan Alley, 109 W Indiana Ave, DeLand. Completely free, dog friendly, and about 35 minutes north of your usual routine.
It has a completely different energy than the metro markets and makes for an excellent escape on a slow Friday night.

Nineteen issues. The tower is free, the circuit is steady, and the heat is temporary even on the days it files for permanent residency. Hit reply if you end up somewhere real, especially if you make the Bok trip and can confirm the tower is as ridiculous in person as I remember. I read every dispatch between my 18 hour naps. And if you turn up something dog friendly or culturally significant that belongs on my radar, send the intel. My nose is good. Yours, out in the field, is better.
